Autoclave Safety - An integral part of your university’s Laboratory Safety Program is comprised of the Chemical Hygiene Plan. A component of this plan is autoclave safety. Students, staff, and professors are to be protected from the health and safety hazards presented by the use of autoclaves in your laboratory. In this program we will cover the proper use of an autoclave. We will discuss sterilization, using an autoclave, some limitations of autoclaves, good laboratory practices as applied to autoclaves, and some characteristics of autoclaves.
