1017B Respirators: The New Rules

VIEW COURSE
There have been many improvements in respiratory technology, as well as improved knowledge on how to protect people exposed to potentially harmful contaminants. Topics included in this safety video are engineering controls, written program and procedures, respirator selection, emergencies, something new in the rules, medical evaluations, fit testing, seal checks, training, dust masks, and respiratory protective equipment maintenance.

1018B Respirator Selection

VIEW COURSE
Anyone wearing a respirator must be trained and authorized by the company in several different areas such as how to put on and take off the respirator. We call that donning and doffing. The process is simple, but it does require some basic knowledge, which we'll now review. You are being asked to select the respirator that provides the most acceptable fit. A mirror must be provided to assist you in evaluating the fit and positioning of the respirator. Each respirator represents a different size and shape and if fitted and used properly, will provide adequate protection. Hold each face-piece up to the face and eliminate those that do not give you an acceptable fit. Put the most comfortable mask on your face and wear it for at least 5 minutes.

1019B Fit Testing Under New NIOSH Standards

VIEW COURSE
This short program explains the new rules and procedures for proper fit testing of respiratory equipment. These new standards have established new filtering efficiency and performance criteria for all non-powered, air-purifying, particulate-filter respirators. The purpose of fit testing is to make sure the respirator you use will not leak, under normal use and working conditions. Almost any respirator you use will appear to fit, but individuals wearing a respirator may not always be able to detect a leak; therefore a good fit testing program is necessary.

Topics included in the safety video are Air Purifying and Particulate-Filter respirators, fit testing - quantitative and qualitative, general requirements, seal checks, and documentation.
